![]() ![]() ![]() That's the wonderful thing about being a local Meteorologist-we live and work in the same community-we experience the same weather-good and bad-and can share our experiences. One thing I enjoy as much as forecasting and delivering the weather information to you all, is meeting people and spending time in the community in which we all live. The Miami Valley has an extensive array of weather phenomenon and it takes a skilled forecaster and Meteorologist to be able to give viewers the accuracy they need to stay safe in such changing weather conditions. There have been several large snow events that I have forecasted here in the Miami Valley that have given me the opportunity to forecast for snow again since I spent so much time forecasting and tracking tropical events in the Carolinas. My apartment complex was damaged in the outbreak. In addition, I covered the historic outbreak of tornadoes of Memorial Day 2019. While at WHIO, I’ve forecasted, reported, and surveyed tornado damage across the Miami Valley. After spending the last 5 and a half years in eastern North Carolina, covering hurricanes, tropical systems and ice storms, I felt the call to come back home to the Buckeye State and the Birthplace of Aviation. I also forecasted ice storms, including one that crippled the city of Raleigh-Durham. I covered the historic flooding events that were produced by Hurricane Matthew and Hurricane Florence. ![]() While there, I had the chance to track hurricanes and other tropical systems. After spending some time with ONN, I accepted a position as the Weekday Morning and Noon Meteorologist for WNCT-TV9 in Greenville, North Carolina (near the Outer Banks). Soon after graduating, I became a Weekend Meteorologist for The Ohio News Network, based in Columbus. Most recently, Simpson had been the chief meteorologist at WKEF and WRGT in Dayton. I graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Atmospheric Sciences. Police in Miamisburg arrested Jamie Simpson, 49, Thursday morning on suspicion of OVI. I decided I would blend my love for weather and anchoring to become a Broadcast Meteorologist. I’ve always been a news junkie, even at an early age I wanted to be a News Anchor. and in May 2009 The Nielsen Company named WHIO-TV’s News Center 7 as the number one rated newscast in the country. In 2009, WHIO-TV ranked as the 1 CBS affiliate in the United States. It broadcasts on channel 7 (digital 41) and is an affiliate of CBS. In fact, it was those thunderstorms that sparked my interest in weather. WHIO-TV is a television station in Dayton, Ohio. McCall Vrydaghs will take on the Storm Center 7 Chief Meteorologist role beginning today at 5 p.m.Growing up in Akron, I had a chance to experience everything from copious amounts of lake effect snow to searing summers with severe thunderstorms. During her tenure, she provided crisis communication during natural disasters and achieved recognition for her service to the community. “Our experts deliver the most accurate forecast, so you can plan your day, and most importantly, keep your family safe.” McCall Vrydaghs, the Chief Meteorologist at Dayton’s WHIO-TV Channel 7, is leaving the network to pursue a career change. “Weather affects how we plan our lives every single day, and it’s critical that we have trained scientists, professional meteorologists, who know Ohio, who know our weather patterns and topography in the Miami Valley,” said News Director Caryn Golden. Channel 7 is the only local station with its own local radar, Live Doppler 7 Radar, and most recently, a Storm Tracker 7 mobile weather vehicle, to keep watch over Miami Valley weather 24-7. WHIO-TV Channel 7 continues to invest in the resources that keep the Miami Valley safe from severe weather. WHIO-TV has made it a priority to have a team of expert Meteorologists and to invest in the tools they need. He’ll be joining the Storm Center 7 team in late December. Jones is excited to return home to Ohio, its four seasons, and his family.
